The Specifics of STDs/STIs

Chlamydia
One of the most common STDs and affects people under the age of 25 at a high rate. Most people who contract this infection will not have symptoms and can infect other people. Many problems such as PID (pelvic inflammatory disorder), infertility and tubal pregnancy can occur if it is not detected and treated. Chlamydia is treatable with antibiotics.

It is recommended women under the age of 25 and men who have sex with other men should be tested at least yearly.

Gonorrhea (aka “The Clap”)
Men who are infected with gonorrhea may have burning during urination and/or a yellow discharge. Women may not experience any symptoms and be unaware they are infected. As with Chlamydia, problems may occur such as PID, infertility and tubal pregnancy if the infection is not detected and treated. Gonorrhea is treatable with antibiotics.

It is recommended women under the age of 25 and men who have sex with other men should be tested at least yearly.
