Those were the first words out of my mouth when the kind voice on the phone answered.

Scared, not knowing where to turn, and knowing I needed some help, I had dialed Advice & Aid Pregnancy Centers.  I had read a lot of the information on their website and they seemed knowledgeable.  Not pushy, but like they would know what to do to help me.

I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to do about this new development.  But I did know that I needed it to be confidential.  I told the lady that I wanted to get information on abortion without my parent’s knowing about it.

“Are you sure you are pregnant?” was her response.

That caused me to pause and think.  Although I had missed a period, and was feeling a little nauseated, I hadn’t actually taken a pregnancy test yet.  Maybe I was too scared.  But somehow, her calm voice on the other end of the phone reassured me.

“Come in to our office.  We can do a pregnancy test here in complete privacy, and no one will have to know the results but you.  Best of all, you won’t have to feel all alone when you find out.  I can get you in today if you want.”

When I arrived, I met with a Client Advocate.  She was warm, calm and helpful.  As she held the pregnancy test results,  I knew, no matter what the outcome, that I had a knowledgeable friend who could help me through this.
