AFTER ABORTION

It is not uncommon for a woman to feel a sense of relief after an abortion.  There is no longer a pregnancy in her life to consume her thoughts, and she can return to her normal life.

However, some women experience emotional and psychological distress months or even years after abortion.  After the stress of making the choice to have an abortion, going through the procedure, and dealing with the emotions that often follow, many women describe feelings of trauma after abortion.  In fact, Post-Abortion Syndrome is a form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder that many soldiers and victims of violent crimes experience.

The following is a partial list of many of the feelings and symptoms that woman who have had abortions in the past have reported feeling:

  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Eating Disorders
  • Experiencing the Abortion Again
  • Fear of Infertility
  • Feeling “Numb”
  • Guilt
  • Regret
  • Shame
  • Thoughts of Suicide
  • Unresolved Grief
  • Wanting to get Pregnant Again
