Abortion Pill Reversal

can this be reversed

Have you taken the first dose of the Abortion Pill (Mifepristone)
but now wish you could reverse the effects?

The abortion pill, also known as Mifepristone or RU-486, is prescribed by a doctor prior to ten weeks of pregnancy. This pill is a two part process consisting of taking Mifepristone followed by Misoprostol approximately 24-72 hours later. The first pill is usually given at the prescribing clinic prior to leaving the appointment.

When a woman changes her mind, it may not be too late to reverse the effects of the first abortion pill.

However, the time in which this reversal can be effective is very short.

how reversal works

let’s talk about what happens with the pill . . . and how it can be reversed

Medical abortions (abortions that are done by taking a series of pills), are the most common type of abortion in the United States, making up about 40% of all abortions that occur. The pills involved in a medical abortion are called Mifepristone, followed within 24-72 hours by a medicine called Misoprostol. Mifepristone and Misoprostol must be taken within the first 10 weeks of pregnancy to be effective. Mifepristone works by blocking your body’s progesterone, which is necessary for a healthy pregnancy to continue, and Misoprostol causes your uterus to contract.

There is a treatment available called Abortion Pill Reversal (APR).
It is a time-sensitive treatment, but if you start it within 72 hours of taking the first abortion pill, you have a chance of reversing the effects of the pill and having a successful pregnancy. According to the best available statistics, APR (abortion pill reversal) is effective in up to 62% of cases when it is started within 72 hours of taking the first abortion pill.

APR involves taking Progesterone (the natural hormone that is present in normal pregnancy) for the first trimester to overcome the effects of Mifepristone. Progesterone is often taken during pregnancy in cases of IVF treatment or with women who have a high risk of miscarriage, so it is considered to be a safe treatment during pregnancy if prescribed properly.
